Dances for a Variable Population invites you to join us in celebrating the launch of Moving Through Life: Essential Lessons of Dance, the inspiring new memoir by DVP’s founder and artistic director Naomi Goldberg Haas.
This special evening will feature a reading from the book, a celebratory performance by Movement Speaks® teachers and students, and the chance to purchase a signed copy of the book. Guests will also enjoy light refreshments and connect with members of the DVP community.
Moving Through Life chronicles Goldberg Haas’s lifelong journey in dance—from ballet stages to senior centers—and her unwavering commitment to making movement accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Written in collaboration with Brooklyn-based director Mikhaela Mahony, this memoir is filled with stories of resilience, joy, and the powerful lessons dance teaches us at every stage of life.

About the Book:
Moving Through Life is part memoir, part movement guide. It blends Goldberg Haas’s personal journey—including her time with Pacific Northwest Ballet and founding of DVP—with insights from the Movement Speaks® curriculum. With accessible exercises and reflections, the book empowers readers to embrace movement as a source of renewal and joy.
About the Author
Naomi Goldberg Haas
Naomi Goldberg Haas is the founder and artistic director of Dances for a Variable Population, which received the 2024 Outstanding Dance Organization Award from the National Dance Education Organization. In a career that has spanned concert dance, theater, opera, and film, Goldberg Haas danced with the Pacific Northwest Ballet and founded the intergenerational/mixed ability dance company Los Angeles Modern Dance & Ballet. A leader in the field of creative aging, she also received the 2023 Lifetime Impact in Dance Education award from the New York State Dance Education Association.
Mikhaela Mahony is a Brooklyn-based director of theater, opera, and film as well as a faculty member at the Mannes School of Music at The New School.
